U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02), Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, today announced $3,467,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) for the Cape May County airport. “Over the past decade we have made substantial improvements to South Jersey’s community airports which have helped create opportunities for more businesses, more jobs and more economic growth in our region. An example is the presence of the unmanned aerial systems industry which is directly tied to the airport facilities and the further potential it holds,” said LoBiondo. “Today’s funding for the Cape May County airport will further enhance safety operations, ensuring businesses relying on our transportation network are able to move their goods and services efficiently and effectively. I will continue to work closely with local officials and the FAA to bring additional federal resources to Cape May County and our region.” "On behalf of the Commissioners and staff, we would like to thank Congressman LoBiondo for his efforts to secure this important federal grant for Cape May Airport that will rehabilitate Runway 1-19 and extend a neighboring taxiway," remarked Scott A. Green, Executive Director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority.  "Federal funding for infrastructure improvements is the foundation for the growth and prosperity of a general aviation airport. These investments will also boost our ability to pursue economic development opportunities with our County partners.”
“The Cape May County airport is very important to our region in terms of economic opportunities and future growth. It is not only used for general aviation but for UAS operations and testing. We are really excited by the announcement of these federal funds and appreciate the Congressman’s continued efforts on our behalf,” said Cape May County Freeholder Will Morey. This is a discretionary grant by USDOT to the DRBA to extend the taxiway and rehabilitate the runway at the Cape May County airport.
