Mayor Leonard Desiderio celebrates the unveiling of a bronze plaque that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol.

Anyone who visited our seashore community last summer is more than likely aware that 2019 marked the 100th anniversary of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol – and that a series of events and activities took place to commemorate the Beach Patrol’s “100 Years of Lifeguarding.”

With that in mind, as 2019 was drawing to a close, we felt that it was appropriate to take the time to acknowledge what a momentous year it has been. After all, as I have said before, it’s not every day that a shore town gets to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Beach Patrol.

So, on Saturday morning, filled with a strong sense of community pride, many of us gathered one last time to celebrate the SICBP’s 100th anniversary. That final centennial commemoration took place in front of our Beach Patrol Headquarters, where we unveiled a new plaque that noted the date that the Beach Patrol was founded in 1919.

For years to come, that plaque will serve as a reminder of the dedication and commitment to safety that our Beach Patrol members have displayed over the past ten decades.

My thanks go to all of our local lifeguards, from the past and present, for all they have done to help make Sea Isle City a safe beach destination; and I look forward to us all stepping into the next century of lifeguarding together.

As is the case each year, many people chose to spend the holiday season here in Sea Isle City. In addition to the many well-attended local events that took place in honor of Christmas, it was also a pleasure to see so many folks ring in the New Year with us.

My thanks go to all those who helped make our community’s holiday celebrations successful, including the various civic organizations that hosted events and all of our City employees, who helped facilitate many activities or hosted events themselves, including our first responders (Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services), Department of Public Works, and Department of Community Services. Thank you all!

I wish everyone a happy and healthy year ahead. 2020 promises to be a great one in Sea Isle City, so be sure to spend as much time here as you can.

This week’s “Shout Out” goes to all of the members of our nation’s Armed Services, who deserve our thanks for what they do for this country. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as we kick off the New Year!

Smile … You’re in Sea Isle!
