Some of Sea Isle's local businesses helped organize an event for children with Epilepsy.

Epilepsy Services of New Jersey, Heritage Surf & Sport, Ludlam Board Riders, Mrs. Brizzle’s Deli, and other organizations are joining forces to host “Seize the Wave” on Wednesday, July 21, on Sea Isle City’s 37th Street Beach.

During Seize the Wave, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, 30 children with epilepsy will be introduced to the sport of surfing, with lessons beginning on the sand and then moving into the ocean, where each child will be accompanied by an experienced surfing partner.

Participants will receive commemorative T-shirts, as well as a free lunch will be provided.

According to Brian Heritage, president of the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and owner of Heritage Surf & Sport, the event is a true community effort, with numerous individuals and organizations supporting this worthy cause.

“Not only is this a very nice event, it gives kids who normally would not have the chance to go surfing the opportunity to experience something new affiliated with the ocean,” said Heritage, who is also a member of the Ludlam Surf Riders, a local chapter of the South Jersey Board Riders Club.

He continued, “Obviously we enjoy surfing, but the Ludlam Surf Riders also enjoy serving as local ambassadors for the ocean – and we are very happy to help these kids experience surfing first hand during Seize the Wave.”
