Crowded beaches are a hallmark of strong summer seasons in Sea Isle.

The waning days of summer are here. But some of the best times to head to the shore are approaching. The shoulder season brings with it warm breezes, sunny skies and the perfect respite from a busy time could be lounging on a beach chair in Sea Isle City.

And there are two big incentives for day trippers and residents to head to the city’s beaches, shops, restaurants and all the other enjoyable things to do in the  shore town.

There are no longer beach tags or parking fees.

Let’s just call it Sea Isle’s “free season.”

Starting the day after Labor Day, beach tags are no longer required, and parking is free.

Sea Isle City Public Information Officer Katherine Custer explained how they are so many incentives to come down for a visit.

“There are many great reasons to be in Sea Isle City after Labor Day,” Custer said. “In addition to cooler temperatures, quieter beaches, and amazing autumn sunsets, folks are always happy when they don’t have to pay parking fees or have to remember to grab their beach tags before heading over the dunes.”

Throughout the summer, revenue raised from beach tag sales helps to pay for a number of vital services, such as hiring lifeguards and keeping the beaches well maintained and clean. Parking revenue pays for city services, Custer said.

But a few years ago, City Council passed an ordinance to stop charging for parking after Labor Day weekend with the notion that it would give visitors an added reason to visit the resort in the fall. In turn, it helps give a boost to the business community during the offseason.

Parking is free so don’t bother putting your cash into the kiosk.

In addition to spending time sunning or swimming at the city’s beaches without having to worry about purchasing tags or pay for parking, there are other things families should keep in mind about the barrier island when thinking about taking a day trip or weekend getaway to the shore, Custer noted.

Gourmet eateries and boutique-style shops offer continued specials and discounts throughout the fall into the winter months. Rental properties and hotels also offer lower rates than in the summer months when the population swells.

“Free beaches and free parking are just two of the many reasons that people enjoy while visiting our community during the off season,” Custer explained. “When you factor in our awesome local restaurants, retailers and other businesses, it’s easy to see why people Smile when they’re in Sea Isle.”
