There has not been a City Council meeting since the last E-Newsletter, so instead of updating everyone on the outcome of our latest meeting, the members of Council would like to take this opportunity to remind you about a few perennial changes that have recently taken place in Sea Isle City.

For example, now that October has arrived, pets are permitted once again on Sea Isle City’s beaches and promenade – however, we remind everyone that dogs must be on a leash at all times and their owners must clean up after their pets without delay. Please remember that children play along our shoreline throughout the year, and stepping in a dog’s fecal matter can ruin a day at the beach.

Another annual change is the “No Turn on Red” restriction being lifted at certain intersections in town due to less pedestrian and vehicle traffic after October 1. Also, the traffic lights along Landis Avenue at 33rd, 53rd and 86th Streets have been changed from fully operational to blinking yellow lights for the vehicles traveling north and south on Landis and blinking red lights for travelers heading east and west along those three numbered streets.

However, City Council reminds everyone that regardless of where you are in Sea Isle City, please pay close attention to all signage and travel safely whenever you are behind the wheel.

Even though our town is not as busy during the off-season as it is during the height of the summer, it is still critical that we all continue to practice social distancing in public and wear face masks whenever we are within 6 feet of non-household members. We made it through the summer of 2020 – now let’s make it all the way to the finish line together (in other words, when they discover a vaccine for COVID-19).

Some people have asked when City Council meetings will “return to normal” and be held in-person again. As of now, no decision has been made regarding when Council will resume meetings with the public in Council Chambers.

As we are all aware, at the start of this pandemic New Jersey and New York were amongst the hardest hit states in the union, and subsequently we have worked very hard to curb the spread of the virus and keep everyone as safe as possible.

Now that we are seeing spikes in other parts of the country, your Council members do not feel that it is prudent at this time to go back to in-person meetings just yet – especially since our virtual meetings offer the public the opportunity to easily phone in, listen to the entire meeting, and then voice their opinions and ask questions on the spot.

We all look forward to being together again at meetings, community events and other gatherings, but for now we feel it best serves the interests of the general public to continue to follow the protocols we put in place at the start of the pandemic. In the meantime, please know that we are very grateful for everyone’s patience and cooperation.

Our next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 13, at 10 a.m. Information about that meeting (including the meeting agenda and instructions for public participation) is posted on the homepage of our municipal website, www.seaislecitynj.us.
