During the March 13 City Council meeting, Council introduced and had first reading for three new ordinances:

  • Ordinance 1618, which is a “housekeeping” ordinance that updates several of our existing ordinances and ensures that their wording is accurate and that they conform with State statutes.
  • Ordinance 1619, which authorized the City to utilize unused bond money from a past capital plan for the purchase of two new ATV’s that the police department will use to patrol the beaches this summer.
  • Ordinance 1620, which also authorized the City to utilize unused bond money from a past capital plan for the purchase of a new public works vehicle.

Each of the ordinances mentioned above will have second reading during the April 10 City Council meeting.

There were five resolutions on the March 13 Consent Agenda, including:

  • Resolution 047, which authorized Sea Isle City to participate in the Atlantic Cape Coastal Coalition’s Public Information Group (a multi-jurisdictional program that coordinates and shares flood-related information amongst communities prior to, during and after storm events).
  • Resolution 048, which authorized the adoption of the City’s Community Forrest Management Plan.

Also during the March 13 City Council meeting, Brian Heritage, owner of Heritage Surf & Sport Shop, addressed Council in the hopes of once again hosting an “Open Mic Night” at the Band Shell this summer, which he feels will help alleviate the issue of teens congregating on the Promenade. Mr. Heritage requested that the City allow the Open Mic Night to run until 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings (slightly later than in 2017). Mayor Desiderio said he would work with Mr. Heritage to extend the hours to 11:00 p.m. as a pilot program.

Our next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 27, in Council Chambers – we hope to see you there!
