Members of City Council - Sea Isle City

Our most recent City Council meeting took place during the City’s annual Community Day gathering on Saturday, May 20.  At that meeting, Business Administrator George Savastano gave Council an update on the repair work that is taking place at the Townsend Inlet Bridge, which connects Sea Isle City and Avalon, our neighbor to the south. Unfortunately, the T.I. Bridge will not be open in time for Memorial Day weekend – even though work on the bridge is progressing at a steady rate. Therefore, motorists must continue to use an alternate route when traveling between Sea Isle and Avalon. Bicyclists and pedestrians, however, are permitted to cross the bridge except during specific construction operations. To learn more about the T.I. Bridge repair project, please visit the “City News” tab on the homepage of Sea Isle City’s municipal website, www.seaislecitynj.us.

Also on May 20, City Council introduced Ordinance 1609, which was written to amend the current ordinance entitled “Licensed Premises; Hours When Music, Dancing and Entertainment Prohibited.”  If passed, Ordinance 1609 will allow music to be played at outdoor businesses on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 10:00 p.m. rather than 9:00 p.m., which is the time currently allowed. This ordinance was successfully introduced by a majority of City Council and will be taken up for second reading and public hearing at the regular council meeting on June 13, at 10:00 a.m.

Later, during the Citizen Comment portion of the May 20 meeting, several people stepped to the microphone to voice their opposition to Ordinance 1609.

When it was time to vote on the Resolutions listed on the May 20 Consent Agenda, no one from the audience stepped to the microphone to share their thoughts or comments. At that point, each Resolution on the Consent Agenda was passed, including…

  • Resolution 082, which authorized the purchase of a new Ford Escape for the Department of Public Works.
  • Resolution 083, which authorized the purchase of parts for a single-man stand-up vehicle called a “Dingo” that will be used by the Department of Public Works to clear sand from our beach paths.
  • Resolution 084, which authorized the approval of a Raffle Application for the Knights of Columbus, of Saint Joseph Church.

The next City Council meeting will take place on May 30 at 10:00 a.m. in Council Chambers. Prior to the May 30 meeting, there will be a Floodplain Management Public Meeting in Council Chambers beginning at 9:00 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend both meetings on May 30 – we hope to see you there!

Best regards from the members of City Council,

Council President Bill Kehner (wkehner@seaislecitynj.us)
