The term “homemade” is thrown around a lot at restaurants these days, but at Berardi Bros. Pizza in Sea Isle City you can rest assured that what you’re eating is really homemade food, not just a marketing gimmick.

“Everything here is homemade,” emphasized Nick Berardi, 30, who owns the pizzeria at 4203 Landis Ave. with his 21-year-old brother, Mike.

The authentic homemade food has been a tradition in the Berardi family for generations and continues to this day.

“All of our recipes were passed down to our grandparents from their grandparents,” Nick explained.

The Berardi family-style tradition carries over in the way Nick, Mike and their employees treat their customers.

“What we’re known for around here is, we’re big on family,” Nick said. “You come in as a customer and leave as family.”

And then there’s the food. Although an array of plain and specialty pizzas and delicious toppings grace the menu, Berardi Bros. also features wraps, sandwiches, wings and side orders containing the freshest ingredients.

“Our family and deep-rooted traditions have always been centered around great food without compromise. That’s why we only use the best and most fresh ingredients available and aren’t afraid to make changes if we think we can do better,” Nick said.

A variety of pizza is lined up and ready to go for hungry customers.

Berardi Bros. has pizza ranging from the traditional plain pies to more elaborate toppings, including Margherita, vegetable, meat lovers, buffalo chicken, barbecue chicken, Stromboli and Sicilian pizza.

In addition to the pizza selections, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings and homemade meatballs are among the popular menu items. The hand-rolled meatballs come from a 200-year-old family recipe.

The mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders are homemade and hand-breaded along with the sauces for the chicken wings.

Berardi Bros. Pizza has been in Sea Isle for five years, moving over from its former location on Park Road to its current spot on Landis Avenue in the heart of downtown three years ago.

Mike Berardi stirs the homemade sauce cooking in a large pan.

The Berardi family has been in the pizzeria business since 1975. Nick and Mike’s father, along with their three uncles, formerly operated a pizzeria in Northeast Philadelphia.

Now, Nick and Mike are carrying on the Berardi family tradition. Mike looked at his older brother with a smile and said there is no one he would rather work with in the pizzeria business.

“It’s fun. It’s definitely fun. There’s nothing like working with family,” Mike said.
