Cape Assist instructor, Lisa Pilli teaches Wellness Class in Sea Isle City

Cape Assist, with Funding from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, presented a Wellness Program to the AARP for Adults 51 years of age or older in Cape May County in October through November. “The AARP attendees gave the wellness program outstanding reviews,” said Francis J. Roach, President of AARP Chapter #710 in Sea Isle City, “We plan to schedule another presentation in 2018.” The Wellness program was one of the most attended events to date, with over 40 participants completing the 6-week program. “We haven’t scheduled the next event yet,” said Temerity Berry, Cape Assist Senior Prevention Educator, “But, any interested adults over 50 can still be placed on a waiting list for the next one.”

The 6-week program teaches the participants how to make healthy lifestyle choices, factors and behaviors they should avoid to stay healthy, safe practices regarding alcohol, prescription and over-the-counter medications and simple tools to take charge of their own healthcare. The lessons are interactive and help older adults navigate the healthcare system and take control of their health. Lunch is provided and any participant who completes the program will receive a $50 gift card. Previous programs have been held throughout Cape May Count including Wildwood, Whitesboro, Woodbine, Dennisville, Sea Isle and Ocean City.
