A 39-year-old Sea Isle City man who was already being held in the Cape May County jail has been charged with sexually assaulting and stalking a female victim over a two-year period, authorities announced Monday.

Douglas J. Petock, of 28th Street, was charged on Dec. 11 with one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual contact and one count of stalking, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

Sea Isle police received information about Petock from the Pennsylvania State Police on Dec. 7 and launched an investigation leading to the sexual assault charges. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was part of the investigation.

“The investigation revealed Petock allegedly sexually assaulted a female victim over the period of two years in 2017 and 2018,” according to a press release issued by Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Sea Isle Police Chief Tom McQuillen.

At the time Petock was charged with sexual assault, he was already in custody at the Cape May County Correctional Center facing other charges, authorities said. The other charges were not specified in the press release.

Petock remains in jail. He faces the possibility of more than 30 years in prison if convicted of all of the charges, authorities said.

Sutherland said the charges against Petock are part of an ongoing investigation and anyone who has additional information is urged to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135 or the Sea Isle City Police Department at 609-263-4311.
