Ocean City High School is hosting an Open House event at their Wellness Center on Tuesday, November 14th at 5:00pm. The Wellness Center opened in the beginning of the 2017 school year and it serves as a place for students to relax, de-stress, and seek help.

To commemorate the occasion, remarks will be made at 5:30pm by school officials and Mayor Jay Gillian, followed by speaker Dr. Buzz Mingin at 6:00pm. Dr. Mingin is a New Jersey Certified School Worker, a Certified Forensic Counselor and a Behavior Specialist, specializing in children and adolescents who suffer behavioral and emotional difficulties. At the event, Dr. Mingin will be discussing high anxiety in children and adolescents. The event is free and will provide light refreshments.

“Our Wellness Center is an innovative new environment where the students can, confidentially, come to talk with our staff about any issues they may be having, decompress & enjoy a quiet moment during their busy days,” said Jill Berenato, school registered nurse. “We look forward to opening our doors and having the community be able to meet members of our Child Study and Wellness Team.”

The Wellness Center continues to provide workshops to keep students involved. November workshops will utilize art therapy by way of painting. The students will sign up to create a canvas painting without regard to their ability and focusing on their creativity, individuality and showing how painting is yet another coping mechanism in times of stress.
