Hailey Parker was a brave 11-year old who decided to help kids with cancer after receiving her own diagnosis of brain cancer last march.
She loved mint chocolate chip ice cream and dancing with her friends, and both of those aspects of Hailey’s life have been incorporated into a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
On Saturday, June 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Hailey’s friends and family will honor her memory and fulfill her wish with a dance party and lemonade stand–and much more—to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer. The event will take place on 8th Street between Ocean and Wesley Avenues, in front of the Dance Place, 618 East 8th St. in Ocean City.
There will be a dance party with DJ, lemonade stand, frozen treats from Yoasis, a silent auction of goods and services, face painting, characters, a visit from an OC Fire Department fire truck glitter temporary tattoos, nail painting and much more.
This year’s event is a follow-up to Hailey’s initial event during which she and her cousins set up a front yard lemonade stand and raised $527. She turned the funds over to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, the charitable organization whose mission is to promote awareness for childhood cancers, raise money for cancer research, and to make a positive impact on other children and encourage they get involved to make a difference for kids with cancer.
To register, a donation of $10 per dancer is suggested and entry bracelets are available in advance at Yoasis 838 Asbury Avenue. Bracelets will also be available on a limited basis on-site on the day of the event.
To donate, people may go to the web page https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1220346; by texting “LEMONADE E1220346” to 85944 and the donation will be added to the benefactor’s phone bill; or by check made payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation” with Event ID E1220346 dropped off at the event or mailed to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, 333 E. Lancaster Ave #144, Wynnewood, PA 19096.
The fun-filled dance party will be a mini street festival rolled into one event. In addition to live DJ and dancing, there will be a mint chocolate chip yogurt treat provided by Yoasis and face painting for the kids by Let’s Party Painters. Temporary glitter tattoos will be supplied by Diann from Medieval Fantasy Mini Golf, mint chocolate chip scented soaps from the Soap Store and nail painting by Elleven Studio.
In the middle of it all will be a Lemonade Stand, custom built by R Snow Design/Build where attendees may purchase lemonade for 50 cents a cup.
