As I have said in the past, during this time of year, while many of our residents and visitors are focusing on the “joys of summer,” the City’s Administration continues to concentrate on the overall needs of our community – regardless of what month it is.
That being said, I am happy to report that City Council has awarded a contract for the construction of a new storm water pumping station at 38th Street, which should alleviate flooding issues in that area. A pre-construction meeting is scheduled on Aug. 9 for this project, and we expect to have Sea Isle’s first storm water pumping station in place this coming autumn.
It goes without saying that addressing the challenges of flooding on our barrier island is a major focus for this Administration and City Council. That is why we asked our city engineer to conduct a thorough Flood Mitigation Study that will closely evaluate all of Sea Isle’s drainage systems. The results of that study are due to us later this month, and the information we learn will be utilized as we plan our next phase of capital spending in the fall. As always, we will keep you informed of all municipal projects as they unfold, including those related to flood mitigation.
2018 was the first year that Sea Isle City had a paid Emergency Medical Services Division – and to date the results have been very positive. Now that we have ensured our community’s emergency medical needs long into the future, it is time to make repairs to our Ambulance Corps Building on JFK Boulevard, which requires various renovations. Using funds that have already been approved, the City’s Administration is moving forward with design work for this project, and we anticipate seeing those renovations proceed later in the year.
Even though August has arrived far too quickly, there is still plenty of enjoyment left in the season – so be sure to take advantage of these glorious summer days while they last. This week’s “Shout Out” goes to the members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. Not only do our local lifeguards maintain an outstanding safety record, they also host events each summer that delight people of all ages, including their annual Mascot School and Races for children, their One-Mile Ocean Swim and 10-Mile Island Run (both of which attract countless athletes to our town each year) and their Junior Lifeguard Program, which is one of the SICBP’s many initiatives to cultivate well-trained lifeguards who will keep our beachgoers safe for years to come. Thank you for all you do, Beach Patrol!
Don’t forget that National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Excursion Park, where families can enjoy a variety of activities and interact with Sea Isle’s Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance Corps and Beach Patrol. Plus, everyone will get the chance to dunk Police Chief Tom McQuillen and other Sea Isle City celebrities in a dunk tank ceremony that will be emceed by yours truly. See you there!
