Since our last E-Newsletter, we have weathered our first significant snow storm of the season.  During that storm, which brought more than 6-inches of “the white stuff” to Sea Isle City on January 7, our Department of Public Works was able to keep the streets clear and thus allow our residents and visitors to travel around town as safely as possible.  I am happy to report that we are prepared for any cold weather event that may come our way, and I remind all home owners to ensure that their properties are ready for the winter season – including having neighbors or friends occasionally check your home if you are out of town until the spring. Also, if there is a snow storm on the way, our Public Works officials ask all residents to park their vehicles in their driveways so our snow plow drivers can efficiently clear the roads.

The City’s Administration is currently preparing its 2017 Budget, which will be presented to City Council during their first meeting in February.  The budget will allow us to provide all of the services and amenities that everyone expects during the year ahead. It will also allow us to implement the capital projects that were endorsed by City Council during the capital plan discussions that took place this past fall and winter.

As the winter season continues to unfold, so too will our various road projects around town.  Being a resort community, one of the challenges we face each year is completing all of our road work and other infrastructure improvements during the off-season because it is not prudent to have roads closed during the busy summer months. I am very grateful for everyone’s patience and cooperation while we make improvements to our underground utilities and repave several of our roads this winter and spring.

My congratulations go to Captain Anthony Garreffi, of the Sea Isle City Police Department, who graduated from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy on Tuesday. The highly competitive Command and Leadership Academy, which was designed for command and supervisory level law enforcement practitioners, offers an intensive, demanding course that combines a unique blend of theory and application. To say the least, this achievement is a proverbial feather in Captain Garreffi’s cap – and it will greatly benefit our entire police department.

Smile…You’re in Sea Isle!
